I currently live in one of the few illegal states in the US. There is a “dispensary” a block away from my house where you can buy something that looks, smells, and makes you feel the same way regular weed does.
I’m also currently contracted at a company that hires DOT employees, so they implement random drug testing for everyone. I work a very technical desk job, and an occasional bowl was the best way to rest my brain after work.
So, if I walk up the street and purchase a bag of hemp and smoke it, I could lose my job.
OR I can walk a bit further and get black out drunk at a bar, and call out of work the next day (something I have done before).
What’s fucked is the tests also cover alcohol, but being hung over isn’t against the rules, even if I’m far more impaired than if I smoked a bowl a week ago.
Not sure why I posted this, can probably remove it. Just feel the need to vent I suppose.
Not to rub it in, but as someone who lives in a state where it has been legal for about 10 years and who also works from home, my experience couldn’t be more different than yours.
I guess it just comes down to electing better people to represent your state, or moving.
Yeah, testing for weed now-a-days in any state is just fucked up and stupid.
is leaving that state a viable option for you?
Technically yes, realistically no. I’d rather be a force for change here. It’s a wonderful place, despite our backwards politicians.
Texas?
No, but that news is seriously discouraging.
I’m medical in a legal state and got told I was “wasting (the interviewer’s) time” because they’re DOT (it was a job as a barge deckhand). Meanwhile all those dudes get wasted pretty much at all times, I found White Claw cans strewn around the worksite. Jah forbid I smoke a fuckin’ joint in my own living room though!
