  • Unreal how these mediocre mugs took off due to an online trend (that, let’s be real here, probably started its life as guerilla marketing). TikTok is such a shithole. Sort of like using a bidet which costs more upfront to to cut down on toilet paper and have a better experience, it’s fantastic to use reusable mugs which cost more upfront to cut down on water bottles and have a better experience.

If this hype had been around water bottles in general, that would’ve been fantastic; adequate hydration and microplastics are two critical public health issues. But Stanleys are mid as fuck, and the fact people were buying them en masse as a Beanie Baby-tier fashion accessory likely made them more difficult to obtain for the people who actually wanted to use them. And for all the hype, you’re getting something that’s generally shittier than an equivalently priced HydroFlask or Yeti.

  • Technically red meat is Class 2A, meaning it’s “probably carcinogenic” to humans. Thus, you can’t quite yet (especially with animal agriculture being such a powerful lobby) place a label saying it definitely is. However, basically all the evidence at this point shows that eating red meat and especially processed red meat increases your risk of e.g. colorectal cancer.

However, processed meat is a Class 1 carcinogen and thus definitely should have a label, but good fucking luck getting any group of politicians to sign off on that in the face of – again – the animal ag lobby. Unlike big oil, even the most tepid stances against animal ag often aren’t broadly publicly accepted.
