  • What information has come out that makes you say the last paragraph? I’m not doubting it’s validity in the slightest (I don’t think this guy is exactly an infallible source of wisdom), just haven’t seen a lot directly from him that would flesh his views out that much.

  • I’m sorry you got a rough rub, man. I’m heading in a similar direction (moved out at 17, now late 20s working a dead end job to barely afford bills and halfway trying to go to school) and yeah, shits depressing, especially when you have friends that had similar interests and skills as you that were able to make something out of them (my friend who’s floor I slept on the last year of highschool is now a literal rocket scientist).

Just remember, we’re never truly worthless! So long as we keep clocking in every day, we have immense value to our employers. And what more could a person ask for.

  • Oh no no, my friend. If the wealthy being gunned down results in gun control, it won’t be for them. There will be some kind of exemption for private security that will be extremely expensive to get. Those wealthy enough will be able to find ways of sourcing their own if they want one. We’d be the ones without guns in that scenario.

  • It’s not just in education.

Retail pharmacy. My company ~2 years ago decided to start offering clinical services to patients - great! In my store, they walled off part of what used to be the stockroom, expanding our waiting area and giving us a dedicated vaccination room (previously in a sectioned off part of the waiting room) and a health care room (where all the new services went).

To support these new services we got all kinds of really fancy tech - 20 inch 1440p (?) touchscreens for check-in. Very high end blood pressure machines. Two (2) computers in the healthcare room for the one (1) healthcare provider, because, you never know. These changes can be seen in a majority of this company’s stores.

If you haven’t guessed by now, they’ve decided to not go through with those clinical services. All of the tech we bought (if I had to estimate, very conservatively, $15k USD for my store) is either reboxed or installed but powered off on the sales floor, has been for ~12-18 months, and has no plans of ever being repurposed or sold. The vaccination room serves zero additional purpose to the area we had before, and the “healthcare room” is now used as the pharmacy stockroom (since, y’know, they removed part of the stockroom to build it). This is all ignoring the money spent on actually building these rooms (with lighting and climate control nicer than the rest of the store) and profits lost during construction.

But we don’t have enough money for raises, or enough hours to functionally staff the pharmacy 🙃

  • So everyone here is saying fuck anon and I agree, but I agree because they are aware of it and intentionally doing things on purpose to exacerbate the situation.

But like, if you’re a physically larger dude (maybe even cursed with a hint of melanin), and you’ve got to walk behind a woman at 2am… it’s just a shitty situation for both people, where both of you feel like you have to do something you shouldn’t have to do (women feeling the need to run, defend themselves, or cry for help, and men feeling the need to change their route, stand around and wait until she leaves, or do something awkward and potentially more scary like announce their presence).

I’m definitely not advocating for women to be less cautious on the streets at night or anything like that at all, it’s an unfortunate reality that they need to stay vigilant and aware to remain safe. It just really sucks that the way it comes across a lot of the time does little to protect anyone from any actual harm, and just makes normal people feel like shit for making someone feel like they’re about to get raped.
