It no longer make sense to depend on the good while of the phone manufacturers to keep maintaining the OS for our smartphones. We should move towards a system more similar to PCs where hardware and OS are broadly intercompatible and can be exchanged and upgrade seamlessly.

If I have the ability to replace the battery, I don’t see why my 2022 smartphone would become obsolete in 2032, other than arbitrary SW end of life. Just like my 12yo laptop works perfectly fine despite the battery being weak, which I already replaced in the past and still could today !

Yeah, that’s the tone knob… Honestly it isn’t that bad in the “manga character with a guitar” drawing category. I have seen some terrible ones. It becomes offensive when it’s a drawing from *Botchi the rock" and the guitar makes no sense.

It wasn’t the exact same ones though. I can say I still have a good hearing today, I can still hear the high pitch noise from some power supply and I don’t have any permanent ringing in my ears. Let’s compare the update process when you want to shutdown your computer:

Windows:

1. Doesn’t leave you the choice: your getting updated now, deal with it
2. Starts to update
3. Reboots, update for 2 minutes (wasn’t that bad)
4. Reboots again, updates for 15 minutes (come on man, I’m gonna miss my train !)
5. Reboots AGAIN ! continue and eventually finishes the update
6. Shutdown

Fedora:

1. We have downloaded updates, do you want to Install them before shutdown?
2. Not this time, thank you
3. Shutdown Or if you do let it install, reboots always just once, updates 2 minutes, done.

If you have disk encryption or bitlocker, you just can’t let the PC update unattended. Not knowing how many times windows needs to reboot for this update is hella annoying.
