That there is no perfect defense. There is no protection. Being alive means being exposed; it’s the nature of life to be hazardous—it’s the stuff of living.
Packed with 16 cores and 32 threads, the Hygon C86-4G is a direct contender to the Ryzen Threadripper 1950X, and the performance delta isn’t far off from what you’d expect. The abysmally low single-core score of 1073 points puts it on par with older Haswell and Skylake processors. In the multi-threaded department, it bodes fairly well at 8811 points as it inches ever so close to the Zen 1-based Threadripper 1950X. Still, modern-day CPUs such as the Ryzen 5 5600 (Zen 3) put it to shame with less than half the cores.
I surprised they have yet to match 1950X (2017) considering they leverage the original Zen architecture.
Even outside of AI, there are many good reasons for improvements in semiconductors.
For laptops and smartphones, you can get better battery life.
For servers, semiconductors on new nodes greatly improve energy efficiency.
If anything, the bigger issue is software practices that de-emphasize efficient applications. This approach eats up any new hardware power that is developed from new semiconductors.
Makes sense. I never heard about this before, that’s why I thought this was some random twitter post out of the blue.
It’s a pretty solid offering, above 4060 level performance for $250. There is no way the 5060 is going to be priced at $250, I wouldn’t be surprised if Nvidia decided to price it at $400.
This seems rather random.
Has Gelsinger been hitting the pipe 24/7 since he got fired?
Your statement regarding monero is objectively untrue. It is far easier to use real currency. This is just objective fact.
My intention wasn’t really to argue for/against crypto. Just pointing out that for me and many others crypto integration is a no go. Take that as you will.
The whole issue is around knowingly misleading the public, not Nvidia making a mistake with in its revenue segmentation policies.
Isn’t the ability to defederate a key point of having federation in the first place?
I personally do want to see word salad from supporters of russian genocidal imperialism and or the CCP.
For many users (including me), monero / crypto / web3.0 integration would be an immediate red line.
Regural payment methods would work just fine, this is a mere forum after all. If you are that concerned about people linking your username with your identity, then you might as well just skip gold / silver.
This is really the of stuff dystopian scifi.
A somewhat cliched saying comes to my mind when reading this article.
“The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters.” [1]
Hopefully, there will eventually be pushback against this techno-feudalism and oligarchy. For what it’s worth this seems to always happen in history. Ruling elites (in our case oligarchs and their promoters; the media, economists, politicians) consolidate their power and start to become disconnected from reality.
As a side note, it’s funny that AI-generated videos have themes of dystopia and rebellion against the system.

Nvidia already paid a $5.5 million fine to the SEC in 2022 for failing to disclose the effect cryptocurrency had on its gaming business in 2018 and 2019, without admitting or denying the SEC’s statement.
Fascinating how this works. You would think incorrect financial reporting for a publicly listed company would be a critical violation. And yet the fine is comically small and Nvidia has option to neither admit or deny a violation (and yet they paid the fine). There is an almost surrealist quality to this episode.
Fujitsu has demonstrated a mechanical sample of its Armv9-based 144-core Monaka processor for data centers, revealing some details. Less than a week ago, it disclosed that it is being developed with Broadcom and relies on its 3.5D eXtreme Dimension System in Package platform.
The same tech, 3.5D eXtreme Dimension System in Package, is rumoured to be used in Apple’s upcoming custom AI processing chips.
Pretty smart on the part of Apple to attempt to avoid Nvidia’s monopoly like pricing by designing their own AI-focused server semiconductors.
I was honestly surprised how unstable the Automattic CEO sounded. He is literally sabotaging his own company/product/project.
It’s a public mental implosion.
They do way more than that, that’s just the consumer facing stuff.
An excellent idea for a Raspberry Pi / SBC project. I probably going to try and build this out.
Hacktivists? These are clearly state-sponsered and managed groups.
The title is clickbait, the analysis is somewhat bombastic, but somewhat more nuanced.
The B580 is really looking to be a competitive offering in the largely stale market for GPUs.
