Some people do feel better when they move more. I have a shoulder injury and my shoulder works and feels a lot better when I add yoga to my daily routine. If I take time off work and don’t use my shoulder, the next time I use it, it hurts a lot more and feels a lot more stiff.

Different people suffer in different ways and can heal in different ways. This person feeling better by walking doesn’t make your struggles any less significant.

  • Ontario, Canada. The premier (similar to a governor) is over stepping cities, their elected officials, and betraying the people of Ontario. Years ago he ran for mayor of Toronto, Ontarios biggest city, they never elected him and now that he has provincial power he is throwing a temper tantrum. He also cut their city council in half for no justifiable reason. Toronto made significant progress and nearly had a functional bike network, now he is forcing the city to remove newly installed infrastructure.

But people still think his conservative government is “good with money.”

When i worked on pools, the millionaire with a massive “cottage” would argue over $5 worth of product or try to get a refund for unused chemicals the end of the season.

The family thats working hard to make ends meet barely ever argued. Our prices were fair and they want their kids to be able to enjoy their pool. They were always way more appreciative to the employees doing the work and were more likely to offer water, beer, and snacks.

I think another part of it is they dont want “undesirables” entering the store. In my area the main entrance on the main road to a drug store is never open it is always locked. There 5 or 6 cashiers/checks outs on that side of the store that sit empty because they can’t manage security for 2 entrances. Instead the rear, car parking lot entrance is the only option. The rear entrance has only 1 cashier

If you walk to the store from the south you literally have to walk nearly an extra block to get all the way around to the back of the store. The same goes for a small mall nearby, some of the entrances are locked for just no reason at all which adds a lot to travel time, especially if you have mobility issues.

  • Who the hell wants to load bricks into a lifted truck? Even if using a forklift, its often better and safer to keep the load as low as possible. It also safer while traveling to have the load lower to keep the center of gravity lower, hauling bricks in a lifted truck is more dangerous than stock height. Lifts can also impact stopping distance, which isn’t something you want when you’re also ruining your sightlines with the lift.

  • They also keep dirt and road dust off your tools and materials. Vans also conceal your cargo better than a bed which can prevent theft. Most vans are more fuel efficient than similar sized trucks. Vans are usually easier to drive and have better visibility. A big enough van can fit a small workshop in the back, that you can stand in and assemble parts.

Vans are the better work/trade vehicles compared to trucks for most applications and that is a hill I will die on.

  • We have the data. In my area an ancient subway moves more people than the widest highway in north america. They fight tooth and nail to prevent any new rail projects and literally have to print new laws to keep building highways that only make congestion worse. In my opinion it is way more of a culuture war than a numbers war. Many places, and even people, in north america will treat you as a second class citizen if you take transit but we bend over backwards to shave seconds off of car travel.

  • The issue isn’t data, the issue is breaking the car culture. I’ve seen people nearly hit a pedestrian with right of way at a crosswalk while their car was turning right on red. Most of the time they freak out along the lines of “get out of the road, this is for cars.” We’ve adopted a terrible attitude of the car driver is always right and the pedestrian is always wrong and that is the biggest thing that needs to change. We constantly accept dangerous designs that take pedestrians, drivers, and cyclists lives to save people literally SECONDS on their daily commute and whenever someone is hurt we blame the human factors instead of the designs of roads and cars.

We can throw as much data as we want, unfortunately it seems most drivers are on the side that seconds are more valuable than life.
