  • It’s so confusing to me how you can be pro corporate- and police-reform, yet against vigilantism. Were you paying attention the last 4 years?

We had a broad based popular movement for police reform resulting in a mass popular uprising. People went so far as large scale property destruction in the name of reforming the police. A large majority of the population supported the movement at one point. And what did all that nonviolent effort get us? Not a speck of police reform to be found anywhere in this country.

Saying you want police reform through nonviolent means is a utopian vision, just like star trek. Come back to reality, read some history, the only way to reform these entrenched systems of power is through violence.

  • Your post ignores all of the flaws pointed out in the Princeton study that I mentioned. If you take more flaws into account I think the score will be far lower than 5/10.

But I am more curious about how your “path to fix the issues” will actually get implemented. I agree with your solutions, but they have no chance of being passed by Democrats or Republicans.

I think you are doing the meme of “How to draw an owl. Step 1: Draw the owl.”

  • Ignoring politics is such a selfish position.

Shunning politics is simply siding with the status quo. When you ignore politics, you are tacitly agreeing to 60k dying a year from lack of healthcare, millions being starved and killed in Gaza, and an ever-increasing wealth disparity where billionaires get richer while the rest of us get poorer.

Shunning politics is saying “my time on this earth is so precious, I can waste no time on thoughts of those less fortunate than I”

  • I think the “temporarily embarrassed millionaire” idea is overstated, most people I interact with have a somewhat negative outlook on the economy and their future wealth.

I think the real issue is that no viable alternative is presented to most people.

The alternatives presented are Russian-style authoritarian oligarchy, Islamofascism, or a Venezuela-style “socialism” in which the narrative only focuses on poverty.

I think this is horrible advice.

Giving up is a healthy coping mechanism, especially when you consider the dire alternatives. People like OP are throwing themselves into the brick wall of job applications, over and over, and they are bloodied. They need respite. Giving up is not permanent, throwing yourself into a brick wall until you kill yourself is.

I graduated with a good Computer Science degree 3 years ago and I am still unemployed. Multiple people in my graduating class have killed themselves, and I would have as well if I had kept throwing myself into that brick wall.

I’m 3 years and 3000 applications in (not counting the AI-generated ones), and I have 0 job offers. Do your back of the napkin math and tell me how many more thousand applications, how many more years, until I can get a job?

You keep suggesting that I am uninformed and unresearched, so please correct me if I got any of the facts wrong.

You keep suggesting that my criticism is just a loud cry, but this is just hand waving the problem away. You have failed to directly address any of my concerns.

To add to my list of cocerns, here is a new one: Have you or any other LW mods/admins been paid by MBFC?

Wow you continue to surprise me, I would have never expected this kind of communication to come publically from a mod.

I think I have made my criticisms of MBFC fairly clear, and your characterization of my criticisms is an obvious strawman.

But since I have your attention, let me try to rephrase the problem: Lemmy was built on principles of open source, transparency, freedom of speech, and community input. The MBFC bot does not follow any of these principles.

In it’s current form, the MBFC bot is a stain on the integrity of LW. I urge you to make a change.

The community has largely made their voice heard on the subject, as evidenced by the large number of downvotes on the bot and on your posts here. I urge you to listen to them.

  • Wow I had no idea the LW team made this bot, how disappointing.

Do the consistant downvotes on the bot give you any concern that you are making a mistake here?

I always thought of LW as the “default” sub here on Lemmy, but all of this: the rightwing bot itself, ‘please block the bot instead of downvoting’, the thinly veiled threats of ban; all of it is pretty strong evidence you are attempting to cultivate an ideological echo chamber here.

Anyway, I’ll continue to do my civic duty and downvote the misinformation bot whenever I happen to see it.

    Thanks
