  • NATO has expanded significantly towards Russia since the SU fell. No nation would be fine with this. Imagine if China started a “defense agreement” with latin American countries. What do you think the US reaction would be to Mexico joining in? Or for a more real and historic example have a look at the Cuban missile crisis.

This does not justify Putins invasion, but comparing this to the appeasement politics towards Hitler doesn’t work, as Hitler wasn’t threatened by British and American troops stationed in Czechoslovakia or Austria.

For a bettet explanation i highly recommend watching some talks of John Mearsheimer, who forsaw a war in Eastern Europe as the result of the security architecture built by the US in the 90s and 2000s.

  • Potential reasons to lie about it: Russia helps propping up all sorts of regimes around the world. So to reassure them having Russia as emergency destination is useful. Also the idea that ousted dictators can be killed by their people is not in Putins interest.

Potential reasons not to present him yet: Assad surely will not look presentable right now, having fled the country on a whim. See first point. Also Russia wants to negotiate with the following governmemt to keep its military bases. Having pictures of Assad waving into the camera as he steps out of his plane in Moscow would make the Syrian public more hostile towards that.

  • American student loans are a scam anyways. The interest rates are outrageous and the federal government subsidizing them, but then they get handled by private businesses in a system know for failure and fraud.

Student loan forgiveness shouldnt be a thing. It shows that the system is trash to begin with and the “forgiveness” remains arbitrary and is just a carrot on a stick.

Make a system where the loans are granted directly by the government and dont incurr interest. No for profit skimming middleman, no permanent debt. Offer a regulated bonus for people who pay back X% before Y years pass, so people are incentivized to pay back quickly, rather than delaying payback.

More importantly remove the outrageous enrollment costs per semester.

  • In a report this week, the institute found that of the top 10 most-engaged posts on X about the shooting on Wednesday, six “either expressed explicit or implicit support for the killing or denigrated the victim.” The dynamic is similar to the discourse that often emerges after a mass shooting on websites like 4chan and 8chan, where perpetrators of extreme violence become memes themselves, Mr. Goldenberg said, “but what’s disturbing about this is it’s mainstream.”

Get fucked neo-liberal media. What an isane gaslighting comparision. This was a targeted assasination. Are you now afraid that people direct their anger at the sources of it, rather than the peasants killing each other?

  • So who gets to decide what was “outside propaganda” grave enough to not recognise an election result? Will this be a general criteria or just a convienent selectively enforced one?

Because if this is a general criteria, next time Russia just needs to make propaganda for the strongest party and have the court annule the result and redo the election infinitely.

If it is only selectively enforced, it is just undemocratic and a measure by the current rulers to abolish democracy. Think about people like Orban just claiming there was too much foreign propaganda for the opposition.

Finally from a democratic theory point of view it doesnt work. Either every vote has the same value and you have a democracy. Or there is arbitrary decisions on whose vote is worthless because they were too dumb to fall for foreign propaganda, effectively removing the fairness and freedom of the vote.

Also these measures dont address the route cause. If the propaganda can get people to elect someone it can get them to do other things, like revolting, sabotage, violent crime… You need to address the propaganda channels and psychological attack angles.
